WSA BHM Celebrations

West Side Academy High School celebrated Black History Month with a series of events. Students and staff participated in a school-wide trivia pursuit, classroom door decorations, and the celebration of Count Day through Valentine’s activities, including dressing in holiday colors, and exchanging gifts and candy. Students and staff also danced with the Bichini Bia Congo Dance Group, participated in essay contests about famous African Americans and discussed race relations through films such as “Cornbread, Earl, and Me.” Finally, students completed a civil rights mock trial protesting bullying and discussed the importance of understanding history to help pave the way for their future.
